FROM THE DIRECTOR
After tonight’s final dress rehearsal we will be very ready to bring A Tuna Christmas to our ALT audiences on Thursday night. As I have said before, there is absolutely no such thing as a simple theatre production. Granted some productions are easier than others, but NEVER is one simple. This show is a good example of that point. One would think this would be a “slam dunk” for us. With only two cast members and one set, who would have dreamed that it would be such a challenge. I knew better all along.
First, two cast members in a full length play means that both actors have allof the lines in the show. That is a lot of lines! Also, as each actor plays 12 different characters there are about 20 costume changes for each actor. This requires a team of five “quick change artists” backstage who make these costume changes at breakneck speed...some in less than 15 seconds. We have been rehearsing the costume changes for over a week and we are finally getting them under control. It’s interesting to note that there 10 crew members supporting 2 cast members to make this show work!!
This show also features 6 individual Christmas trees that each reflect the personality of the characters with which they appear. This has been another major challenge. We also have almost 75 sound cues to deal with during the course of the play as well as another 50 plus lighting cues.
Needless to say, it’s a “big” little production. It’s going to be well worth the effort.
I couldn’t be happier with how the show is coming together. I think ALT audiences are in for a real treat. Tickets are going fast, so make your reservations today!!
