Dance Academy Instructor
Avonlea began dancing at the age of 5 with Lugene Cole and has been in love with dancing ever since. She has studied ballet, modern, tap, jazz, contemporary, ballroom, lyrical and exercise fitness. She has studied dance at West Texas A&M University, Lonestar Ballet, ALT and Landance Conservatory. She recently graduated from The Artist Development Program with Storling Dance Theater in Kansas City, Kansas where she intensely studied dance, nutrition, kinesiology, choreography, and dance pedagogy. Avonlea has been teaching since the age of 15 and loves to encourage her students to be the best they can be.
Avonlea also has a background in musical theater. She graduated out of Christian Youth Theater in Kansas City having participated in 14 shows including Beauty and the Beast, Oliver, West Side Story, Singing in The Rain, and Honk Jr. She was the 2010 recipient of the Rose Award for positive attitude and excellence in character and two time winner of the Outstanding Backstage Technician Award in 2008 and 2009. She also graduated out of Summer Youth Musical with Amarillo Opera in 2012 having appeared in Oklahoma! and Seussical. In 2013, Avonlea interned with Amarillo Opera’s Artist’s In Training Program where she taught kids around the city how to perform on stage as well as performing in various venues. She believes the experience in musical theater translates well into teaching dance as both are performance based and have everything to do with commitment, stage presence, and good technique. Avonlea is so ecstatic and honored to be teaching at ALT and is excited to see what this year will bring!
