What our patrons are saying about "Beauty & the Beast"...

Since I just saw nine shows on Broadway last week (eight of them musicals), you might think that it would be difficult for me to be impressed by a local theatre production. (And as I was informed by one of my students tonight, I apparently am never easily impressed!) But the Amarillo Little Theatre Academy's "Beauty and the Beast" was simply amazing! The quality of the performances far excelled what anyone would expect of high school students...and at times matched or surpassed what I have seen on college or professional stages!  Jason Crespin is to be congratulated for his deft direction. And while all of the performances were very good, four that stood out in my mind were Tevae Shoels as the Beast, Rebecca Hartman as Belle, Ben Knight as Lumiere, and Charlie Turner as Lefou. They were utterly engaging as actors and singers, and I have no doubt each of them has a future in musical theatre if they choose to pursue one.

How fortunate we are to have Amarillo Little Theatre and ALT Academy (together with WTAMU's excellent theatre program) to keep us theatre aficionados in the Texas Panhandle happy between trips to NYC!
