Director's Notes 2017-18
Taken from the alt newsletter, "CURTAIN CALL"
Well, here we are at the beginning of another new season!! I feel lucky to still be doing what I love. I think it’s going to be our best season EVER! We already have an abundance of positives ushering in the new season. We have an ever-growing talent pool, many generous patrons, committed volunteers, beautiful facilities and a rich history of producing great theatre in Amarillo. We are truly blessed.
This Curtain Call newsletter announces the opening of Mary Poppins, our first MainStage production of the 2017-18 season. I know I have said this before, but truth is, this will be one of the biggest, most complicated shows ever produced at ALT. It is a huge show with a large orchestra, lush music, huge production numbers, lots of stage magic and flying effects. Wow. It is going to be a fun challenge. We hope you will plan to support this show generously.
Our Academy program is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this season. It is truly amazing how much the Academy has grown. It is undoubtedly among the finest youth programs in the country. Academy Director, Jason Crespin, has nurtured this program for several years and our growth under his leadership has been extraordinary!! The Academy is promoting its 25 for 25 CAMPAIGN with the opening of the season. We hope you will make a $25.00 contribution in honor of our 25th season. Be a part of something big - 1,000 donations in the amount of $25.00 results in ………………yes, that’s a lot of money.
I can never stress it enough that we owe so much to our volunteers and very generous patrons. We count on our patrons to help bridge the gap between ticket sale revenue and what it costs us to produce top quality theatre. Our patrons are contributing almost $300,000 annually. That’s amazing.
When you come to the theatre this season, you may be greeted by one of our new “Hosts.” We have a group of “ALT Hosts” who will be in our lobbies welcoming guests to the theatre, informing them about upcoming events and helping with questions about season tickets, Producers’ Circle Membership, volunteer opportunities and more. We want to do a better job making you feel welcome and comfortable at ALT. We think this new group will help us to accomplish that.
It’s a busy time at ALT. We are getting ready to “knock your socks off.” Get your season tickets now so that you don’t miss out on all of the fun.
I look forward to seeing you at the theatre(s).
