Director's Notes 2016-17

Taken from the alt newsletter, "CURTAIN CALL"

Yes, believe it or not, this issue of Curtain Call announces the final production of the season, Anything Goes. This classic musical features a brilliant cast and some of the most endearing and hummable music ever written. It should be a popular show with our audiences. I hope so.

You will note that we have announced our 2017-18 season of shows in this newsletter. We are planning to produce four musicals and five great plays. We have read dozens of scripts, polled our audience, had many discussions about the proposed titles and we believe we have selected a list of titles that should make our patrons very happy.

We have experienced a significant downturn in attendance during the past season. I suppose that means our season shows did not appeal as broadly as we had hoped. We strive to pick shows that will excite and inspire not only our audience, but our volunteer corps. It is a difficult proposition. I hope our patrons and volunteers will support these new shows vigorously.

You will see that we are featuring Devlon Jones and Chuck Alexander for our annual special event. These two brilliant vocalists are going to perform songs that have shaped their lives. This will include Broadway tunes, pop songs and gospel favorites. We will feature a guest artist or two and a rockin’ choir that will blow the roof off of our building. I hope you will plan to attend.

In the coming weeks, I plan to meet with a focus group comprised of volunteers, patrons, sponsors and other interested people. My purpose is to solicit feedback regarding our operations and artistic work. We obviously need to do a better job

selecting and marketing our productions. I also hope to get input about how we can better serve our loyal patrons and volunteers. It’s a continuous work in progress.

Thank you to all our “Warriors”’ for continuing to fight to keep ALT strong.

I look forward to seeing you at the theatre(s).

Managing/Artistic Director
