What our patrons are saying about "Hairspray"...

I am not a big fan of musicals.  However, there are times when a little mindless entertainment is just the thing to lift spirits and laugh a bit.  I am  big fan of our local talent, and an even bigger fan of yours (Allen Shankles).

Every time I think you have reached your peak in directing an outstanding production, you reach up a little higher and outdo yourself.  "Hairspray" of Friday evening was one of those times.  From the casting to the finished product, I saw evidence of what you put into this play.  It was extraordinarily entertaining, and I could not be more proud of your work.  You did it again!

I was blown away by the performance of Hairspray at ALT. The cast did a tremendous job of acting, singing and dancing. It was clear they were loving what they were doing and the audience fed off of it. Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle is blessed to have community theater on the level that ALT provides. Always a great performance!

Jim Mitchell ~ Amarillo

My mother-in-law and I saw the Sunday matinee show yesterday. Congratulations, it was wonderful!  And it was fantastic to see such great talent represented by diverse cast.  Enjoyed every moment, especially Devlon's solo.
In the spirit of the message of Hairspray, I hope we can encourage and support our talented friends from African American friends and other cultures to join in more ALT productions on a regular basis. Doyou see this as a possibility?
Thank you all for everything you do at ALT to bring our such outstanding productions to us every year.  We're very fortunate to have ALT!

Celeste Pine ~ Amarillo

I just wanted to drop you a note to compliment you and your staff for your excellent production of Hairspray that we saw last Saturday  The ensemble cast's singing and dancing were first class.  Having seen the Broadway production a few years back, we felt that yours was better in many important ways, including the energy and enthusiasm that the cast demonstrated, as well as the wonderful choreography.  Again, congratulations for producing and directing such a fine show to end the season.

Amarillo Little Theatre is very excited to present Hairspray the Broadway Musical as its final production of the 2015-16 season! Winner of the 2003 Tony Award for Best Musical, this fast paced, big and bright production features spectacular music and dance and the zany characters you know and love. This show promises to be an exhilarating, fun evening of theatre for the entire family.

It’s 1962, and plump, big-haired teenager Tracy Turnblad dreams of dancing on the local teenage TV dance program. When she learns a few dance moves from her black friend Seaweed, her wish comes true and she becomes an instant local celebrity. Using her new-found fame, Tracy advocates for racial integration on the show - an uphill battle she has every intention of winning.

ALT has assembled an incredible collection of talented performers for this production. It features Emma Elkins starring as Tracy. The remainder of the cast includes A’Dreonna Armstrong, Brandon Bellar, Tony Brazell, Ronnie Brockett, Gina Doss, Drew Grimes, Nikki Hawes, Kaycee Humphrey, Gracie Hurt, Taurus Jackson, Devlon Jones, Sean Jones, Kelsey Kilburn, Jered Lopez, Regan Mashburn, Cole Medley, Jonathan Mobley, Treva Oller, Chad Price, Laurenn Reynolds, David Robinson, Bryan Scott, Melissa Shafer, Pecos Shafer, Reagan Shafer, Tevae Shoels, Isabella Smith, Janecia Stevenson, Harrison Stringer, Ryan Sustaita, Bianka Torres, SaVante Wallace, Kaori Young, Isaac Youree and ZZ Wright.
