“Sensational – in every sense of the word.”

Christmas. 1968. With a six week booking at London’s famed cabaret restaurant Talk of the Town, it looks like Judy Garland is set firmly on the comeback trail. The failed marriages, suicide attempts and addictions are all behind her and with her new fiancé at her side, she seems determined to reclaim her crown as the greatest talent of her generation. Yet in her suite at the Ritz Hotel, Garland battles with a tornado of drugs and alcohol as the exhausting series of concerts take their toll. A tough, compelling woman, armed to the teeth with a legendary razor-sharp wit, happiness continues to elude her. No answer ever comes to the question with which she ends every show: ‘If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow, why, oh, why can’t I?’

ALT assembled an amazing cast which included Jo Smith as Judy Garland, Joshua Gibson-Roark as Mickey Deans, Jacob Miller as Anthony, Bobby Schaffer as the Radio Interviewer/Porter and Caitlin Gibson as the Assistant Stage Manager. This compelling drama was directed by Ben Burke with Music Direction by Jacob Miller. Carla Fristoe served as Assistant to the Directors and Alexis Roberts was the Production Assistant.
