“It was the music of something beginning…”

Prepare to be taken to a historic time as the Amarillo Little Theatre presents the epic musical RAGTIME at the Allen Shankles Mainstage beginning November 6th. This Tony Award winning masterpiece is a show that ALT has wanted to produce for several years. It was finally the right time to do RAGTIME.

RAGTIME is a sweeping musical adaptation of E.L. Doctorow’s novel that follows three fictional families in pursuit of the American Dream at the dawn of the 20th Century: Black pianist Coalhouse Walker, Jr. and his beloved Sarah, Jewish immigrant Tateh and his little girl, and a wealthy white family led by matriarch Mother. All grasping for the same dream, if only they can hold on to it.

Featuring a lush score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, a stirring book by Terrence McNally and original orchestrations by William David Brohn, all of whom won Tony Awards for their work, RAGTIME weaves fictional narratives with real historical figures and events, creating a rich tapestry that blurs the line between personal struggle and national identity, making history feel both intimate and epic.

This production boasted an immensely talented cast led by Devlon Jones as Coalhouse Walker, Annika Spalding as Mother, Brett Spalding as Tateh, Sarai Dinkens-Agalaba as Sarah, Jacob Miller as Father, Preston Moore as Mother’s Younger Brother, Anna Bahn as Evelyn Nesbit, Cash Brinkley as The Little Boy, Liv Spalding as The Little Girl, Larri Jo Starkey as Emma Goldman, Harrison Stringer as Harry Houdini, Jeffrey Pickens as Grandfather, Nicholas Shaffer as Booker T. Washington and Kisha Woods as Sarah’s Friend.

The talented ensemble included Nels Bjork, MaKayla Casel, Michele Colbert, Christy Corder, Leigh Anne Crandall, Lindsy Donathan, Sarah Dunn, Savvy Emile, Bethany Fields, Robert Hansen, Mitcheal Johnson Jr., Natalie Lawson, Justin Loe, Jonathan Mobley, Scott Royster, Daniel Scott, Daisha Shaffer, Adrian Thomas, Joseph Ward and Aspen Younker.

Artistic Director and Choreographer for this production was Jason Crespin with Jennifer Akins served as music director and conductor of the 25-piece orchestra. Sara Pennington-Booher served as Assistant to the Directors, Kayleigh Colbert and Jesse Neel served as Production Assistants and Chip Chandler served as the show’s Dramaturg.
