Welcome to the Renaissance! The Amarillo Little Theatre Academy and Fluid Line Components presented the funniest new musical comedy in the last 500 years, Something Rotten! This endlessly witty musical about the making of the world’s first musical was filled to the brim with side-splitting jokes, catchy tunes and tap dancing eggs – yes, you read that right.
It’s 1595 in London, England, and brothers and struggling writing duo, Nick and Nigel Bottom, are feeling discouraged in the shadow of everyone’s favorite celebrity, William Shakespeare. In an attempt to write a hit and get them out of debt, they seek out a soothsayer to predict the next big thing in the theatre…Musicals! Can they beat the bard or will their musical comedy end up a scrambled mess?
Something Rotten! featured 28 talented Academy students and was directed by Academy Director Harrison Stringer. Academy alum Kayden Burns and Academy Instructor Beth Alexander serve as Music Director and Choreographer, respectively. This huge musical, with lush Costume Design by Aimee Pritchard and extravagant Scenic Design by Tana Roberson, brought the audience right into the streets of Renaissance England. Rounding out the production team were Socorra Carrillo as Assistant Director and Mabry Fristoe and Tres Norris as Production Assistants.
