A puzzle box mystery that looks at family, aging and the limits of love.
Now 80 years old, Anthony was once a tap dancer. He lives with his daughter Anne and her husband Paul. Or was he an engineer whose daughter Anne lives in London with her new lover, Pierre? Things are getting strange: He is still wearing his pajamas and he can’t find his watch. His daughter’s stories don’t quite add up. His furniture is disappearing and there are strangers at his table. He is starting to wonder if he’s losing control. In a darkly humorous and deeply poignant translation by Christopher Hampton, Florian Zeller’s The Father is a tragi-comic mystery, a sobering and realistic family story and an unsentimental, emotionally intense look at the world through the eyes of a man experiencing dementia.
ALT assembled a stellar cast which includes Jeffrey Pickens as Anthony, Jenny Whisenhunt as Anne, Michael Newman as Paul, Sara Beukelman as Laura, Bobby Shaffer as Man, Jackie Llewellyn as Woman and Colton Harada and Keegan Ried as Movers. This captivating play was directed by Peg Lovett and assisted by Connie Cannady.
